Temples, Mosques to Reopen from June 8

Kamakhya to remain shut till June 30

Guwahati: The All Assam Devalaya Sangha on Sunday lauded the Centre as well as the state government’s decision to reopen the religious institutions from June 8.

However, the devalaya management committee of the Kamakhya temple will keep the temple premises shut till June 30.

Sangha general secretary Kailash Sharma said, “The government’s decision to allow the reopening of the temples, devalayas has become a great relief to the priests, gardener (mali), cleaning staff and other temple assistants, who were also badly affected by the lockdown.”

Sharma, however, appealed the devotees to maintain social distance and cleanliness while visiting a temple.

At the same time, the ‘North East India Emarat-e-Shariah and Nadwatut Tameer’, a socio-religious Islamic body of the region, also urged individuals above 65 years and minors below 10 years to refrain from praying namaz at a mosque to stay safe from Covid-19 infection.

Spokesperson of the Islamic body Maulana Ataur Rahman Mazarbhuiya also urged all the mosque authorities of the region to put restriction upon these age groups from entering their respective premises as safety measures.

“Being a conscious citizen, we must follow all the guidelines prescribed in the unlock down 1. I appeal all our religious brothers to wear a mask and maintain social distance, extreme hygiene and cleanliness while visiting a mosque for namaz,” Mazarbhuiya said adding that the mosque authorities should also ensure cleanliness in and around their respective premises.

The Ministry of Home Affair recently announced for reopening the places of worship from June 8 after a long spell of more than two months. Hence, all the religious institutions across India will reopen their doors to the general public following the new guidelines issued by the MHA.
