Terror Strike Averted, 3 ISIS-Inspired Men Arrested From Assam’s Goalpara

Three men believed to be inspired by the ISIS and planning a terror strike were arrested on November 24th, 2019 by the Delhi Police from Assam. The arrested have been identified as Ranjeet Ali (24), Muqaddes Islam (21) and Zamiul Zamal (24).

Delhi Police Special Cell’s Deputy Commissioner of Police Pramod Kushwaha told media persons that the arrested persons were inspired by terror group Islamic State and “highly-radicalised”. An Improvised Explosive Device, baton sword, timer and IED components were also recovered from the possession of the suspects.

A case (709/910) has been lodged at the Goalpara Sadar Station. They were produced in the court on November 25th, 2019 and have been sent to 10-day Assam Police remand.

“A special team of Delhi Police in a joint operation with the local police arrested three suspected extremists from Goalpara town. We are investigating the matter,” said Amitabh Basumatary, SP, Goalpara.

Kushwaha said while Zamal worked at an Aadhar enrolment centre, Islam was employed as a driver and Ali worked at a trading centre, Times Now reported.

The Delhi Police also said that the arrested people were reportedly planning a terror attack on Raas Mahotsav in Assam and replicate the same in Delhi in areas with heavy footfall.
