“The ball is in Congress’s court now”: Akhil Gogoi after meeting Rahul Gandhi
Guwahati: National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also advocated on uniting the anti-BJP forces of the state, said Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi on Friday as he returned from New Delhi after meeting him.
Gogoi was camping in Delhi for last several days and meeting several politicians including Gandhi. The meeting between the two leaders came at a time when both Assam Congress and Raijor Dal have been engaged in a discussion for a possible alliance ahead of the state bypolls in at least five seats.
He said, “It was a positive meeting. We shared the same view that there should be a united opposition to uproot BJP. We also discussed on issues that will decided the course of 2024 elections, how Congress and federal fronts are going to fight together and coordinate in the coming time.”
Gogoi added that since he has been advocating on joining hands with all the opposition parties except All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), it’s time for the other parties to discuss on it. “The ball is in Congress’s court now. I have met both the state and Central leaders now and expressed the willingness to fight jointly. Other regional parties should also join hands,” the politician said.
He also said that if the discussion doesn’t yield in any positive outcome, then Raijor Dal would fight in all the constituencies in the bypolls ensuing by the end of the year.
