Guwahati: The Gauhati high court on Monday instructed the State government to place all the official notifications of the health department regarding the COVID19 testing of asymptomatic patients in the state.
The court was responding to a PIL filed by an advocate Daiyan Hussain in which the petitioner sought the court’s intervention in the matter.
Hussain in his petition complained that so far there was no clarity on the process of COVID19 testing of general public especially asymptomatic persons in Assam.
The petitioner challenged that there was no proper notification issued by the State government for testing of COVID 19 patients, whom to test and who not to test and pertaining to asymptomatic ones.
Hussain said, “Secondly, I have also questioned the pricing of the COVID 19 test in private hospitals and laboratories. Today, even if someone goes to a private hospital for any ailment, he or she needs to conduct COVID 19 tests before getting admitted. But in private hospitals, the tests cost around Rs4500 to above in many cases. This rate should be reduced to at least Rs.2200 like other States.”
Advocate Sumit Rajput, represented the petitioner from Delhi through a virtual court appearance.
He added, “After hearing the petitioners side, the high court though did not issue any notice yet but directed the Government counsel to bring all the notification, if any, pertaining to the COVID-19 testing within August 3.”
