Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on September 24th, 2019 held an interactive session with the international press at Delhi’s Ambedkar International Centre and held discussions on a number of topics including the Assam National Register of Citizens(NRC).
While discussing about the issue of NRC in Assam, Bhagwat said that it is ‘not about expelling people but about identifying the citizens’. “There is no place for Hindus in the world except India,” he was quoted as saying by the Economic Times.
Earlier the RSS chief while speaking at a closed-door coordination meeting at Uluberia in Howrah made an assurance that no Hindu would be made to leave the country even if their names do not figure in the final NRC.
The announcement was made to allay fears that Hindus will have to face expulsion from Assam post the publication of the Assam NRC on August 31st where names of over 19 lakh people were excluded from the list.
It may be mentioned that although the right-wing, Hindu nationalist party has been pushing to identifying illegal immigrants, they have also been in support of BJP proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill that seeks to grant Indian citizenship to non-Muslims from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
