New Delhi, December 7: Assam Power Minister Pallab Lochan Das today attended a Conference of all State Power Ministers convened by the Union Power Ministry in New Delhi. The biennial conference is being chaired by Minister of State for Power R K Singh.
Speaking to the media after the conference, Das said there is nothing to be surprised if power tariff is hiked. He further said power ministry cannot single-handedly regulate the tariff; there are other factors as well. He also said that the state government is taking all steps to implement all Central Schemes connected to power supply.
“Similarly emphasis has also been given towards reducing power cut, implementation of pre-paid meters and supply of power to industrial sector” Das added.
Das concluded by saying that penalties are part of a roadmap that is being prepared by the government to fulfil its vision of providing uninterrupted electricity for all, in a bid to end the bane of power outages even at a time of surplus production.
The two-day conference seeks to focus on the ‘Saubhagya’ scheme to provide electricity to 4 crore families by 2018 and as per the agenda, the Centre has asked the states to submit their plans and funding requirements for the scheme.
