Guwahati: With incessant rain, Assam witnessed a third wave of floods with over 36,000 once again being impacted by the deluge.

As per the state disaster response management authority (SDMA), a total 36601 people from 91 villages in eight districts of Bajali, Baksa, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Tamulpur and Udalguri remained flood affected on Tuesday.

Beki and Pagladiya rivers in the state were flowing above danger level at certain locations. At least 1856 were taking shelter in 21 relief camps.

Earlier, the weather department has predicted thunderstorms with lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall to moderate rainfall at most places over the entire northeast till Friday.

Since the first wave of flood hit the state in April, around 88, 44, 466 people have been hit by the flood waters in the state.

So far this year, at least 199 people have lost their lives due to flood and landslides in the state.
