Guwahati: As the flood situation in Assam continues to remain grim adversely affecting more than five million people, an IRS officer has donated ten days of his salary to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
On July 18th, 2019, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax in Guwahati, Padmapani Bora took to Twitter and said that it breaks his heart to see the devastating effect of flood in his home state.
“It’s heartbreaking to see the devastating effect of flood in Assam. The painful images of helpless people and endangered wildlife are really disturbing. As a contribution, I donate my 10 days of salary to the Assam’s Chief Minister’s Relief Fund . @CMOfficeAssam @kaziranga_,” Bora wrote on Twitter.
It may be mentioned that the torrential rains have lashed several parts of the state for over a week now resulting in flood wreaking havoc in Assam. A total of 57,51,938 people and 45,37,171 animals have been affected in 30 out of 33 districts in Assam so far. The Barpeta district is the worst flood-hit district in Assam followed by Dhubri.
It may be mentioned star sprinter Hima Das has donated half of her monthly salary for relief efforts and urged others to make donations to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
