How much does it take to be polite and not be rude to people? Nothing, but many a time we forget about this fact and tend to be rude and impolite to others and in course we end up hurting people.
Well, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of East Garo Hills, Meghalaya Swapnil Tembe has sent across a strong message to officials in his office to be polite to improve the overall public service delivery and not to forget that they all are public servants.
Tembe issued a notice on September 20th, 2019 asking all the officials in the DC office to strictly apply some mannerisms while talking to people. This step was taken by him after he received various cases of rude behaviour and indifference by the public with respect to all branches in the DC office.
Tembe wrote three points in the notice, “While talking to people, utmost care should be taken regarding the tone and texture of the voice. The same should not be offensive or rude in any manner whatsoever.
It should be ensured that whatever needs to be communicated is done so in a polite manner. In case the public is reporting grievance, a patient hearing should be given and the same should be resolved in an amicable manner.
If it cannot be resolved at your level, please report the same to the Branch Officer concerned. At the end, we must all remember we are public servants.”
This step by Tembe is just a gentle reminder that being polite is cost-free and we must be always careful regarding the tone of our voice so that it doesn’t hurt the other person.
