This Winter, Unapologetically Gorge On Makhan, Roti & Saag

Kareena Kapoor Khan was seen gorging on a sumptuous meal like Makke di Roti, Sarson da Saag and Makhan

Winter is almost here. Like every season, winter too brings with itself a wide variety of food options with their own health benefits. Including some kind of seasonal fruit or vegetable to the menu provide you with much-needed warmness and health benefits to deal with the season.

And what’s beyond belief is that Bollywood’s Bebo, Kareena Kapoor Khan was seen gorging on a sumptuous meal like Makke di Roti, Sarson da Saag and Makhan. The actor captured everyone’s fancy with her size zero avatar in her movie Tashan back in 2008. Since then she became the fitness guru for many fitness freaks. Her preference for yoga over gym sessions inspired many to switch to the spiritual and ascetic discipline.

Kareena started shooting for Laal Singh Chaddha in Chandigarh alongside Aamir Khan. After the shoot, she enjoyed the ‘kick-off’ party in a desi way, pics of which are making rounds on social media and we can’t keep calm.

The actor, in her late 30s, is considered one of the fittest actors of Bollywood. But it is also true that she is a self-confessed foodie. For many of us, loving food and being fit cannot go hand. Then what’s the secret behind Bebo’s toned and fit body?

In a recent post, Bebo’s nutritionist, Rujuta Diwekar-known for encouraging traditional, homegrown local food- took to Instagram to share deets of Kareena’s latest desi spread in Punjab. Rujuta gave Bebo’s fans an idea of how she maintains a balance in her diet. Kareena eats healthy but never compromises on her delicious desi cravings. She was seen gorging on Sarson da Saag, Makke di Roti and a bowl of Makhan… Slurp!

Changing your diet with the season and following a diet that includes some kind of seasonal delicacy is the best thing you can do to your body. The actor’s nutritionist Rujuta also ensures that Bebo retains all the good things of our desi produce and not get lost in the process of eating soup-salad or not eating at all.

The Veere di Wedding actor was seen unleashing her ‘Main Apni Favourite Hoon‘ side to stuff herself with Punjab’s traditional platter.

Rujuta also highlighted the importance of being healthy and not fixing any size for the human body. She wrote, “Health is not a size, it’s a state. A state of harmony, in the mind and body and between people and planet. And really, all you need to do for that is to keep calm and eat makhan-roti-saag.”

    Check out the health benefits

    1. Makke di roti

Made from corn kernels, makki di roti is one of the most preferred delicacies in Punjabi households, especially in the winter season. Packed with innumerable nutritional benefits, corn flour is a gluten-free variety of flour. During winters, we tend to become lethargic and therefore to sustain energy throughout the day, this very flour is one of the best options. Rich in B-complex, the corn rotis are good for skin, hair, heart, brain, and proper digestion. It also contains vitamin A, C, K along with beta-carotene and selenium which helps improve the thyroid gland functioning and maintain a good immune system. The thyroid gland helps regulates body temperature to function optimally. It also helps in losing weight.

    2. Sarson da Saag

Apart from being a good source of iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc, potassium and manganese, Sarson saag made from Mustard greens is a powerhouse of antioxidants. It has Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K and Vitamin E, along with phytonutrients such as phenols. Some amount of fibre in it helps make the bowel movement easier. It also helps to keep the bad cholesterol level in check.

    3. Makhan

Contrary to the yellow butter, which contains excess salt, trans fats, sugars and coloring agents, white butter is rich in nutrients like vitamins A and D. White butter, especially the homemade ones contain healthy calories which are essential for weight loss and a healthy body.
