Guwahati: Thowra constituency MLA Sushanta Borgohain tendered his resignation to the Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary on Saturday.
In a letter to the Assam Assembly Speaker, Sushanta Borgohain said, “I hereby tender my resignation of my seat in the assembly with effect from July 31, 2021.”

It is to be noted that MLA Sushanta Borgohain had voluntarily given up the membership of the Congress party earlier on Friday.
Simultaneously, he also tendered his resignation from the chairmanship of the disciplinary committee of the Party.
On the basis of the letter from Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) accepting the resignation letter of Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain and Assam PCC letter to Chief Whip Wazed Ali Choudhury to disqualify Borgohain, CLP Leader Debabrata Saikia has written a letter to the Speaker Assam Assembly Biswajit Daimary to take necessary action as per 10th Schedule of the Constitution and disqualify Sushanta Borgohain for being a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly as he had voluntarily given up the membership of the Indian Congress party.

It may also be mentioned that Sushanta Borgohain is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 2, 2021.
