Guwahati: The Assam forest division on Wednesday apprehended three persons for allegedly selling deer meat in Guwahati.

The body parts of the deer were seized by the forest department from an apartment in Guwahati’s Mathgharia area.

The three apprehended persons were identified as Shyam Chandra Rai, Arman Puramanik and Mohammad Sahil.

Speaking to the media, a forest official said, “We have seized the body parts of the deer and apprehended three persons in connection to the case. They were taken into custody and are being interrogated.”

It is learned that a flat owner in the Mathgharia area had informed that matter to a forest department and accordingly an operation was launched by the department.

A case was lodged against the culprits under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
