Guwahati: In a startling incident, three people were killed and around 22 people were injured after a clash broke out between two parties over a land dispute in Sontoli under Kamrup district on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Nur Mohammad, Ali Akbar and Nurul Haque.

According to sources, the quarrel first broke out between two parties led by Kurbaan Ali and Ali Akbar over a land dispute at Kismat Kathmi panchayat.

However, the situation turned violent between the two parties on Thursday morning following which three people died on the spot while 22 more people were reported injured.

All the 22 injured people were admitted to Sontoli  Primary Health Center (PHC), of which 17 were later shifted to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) for better treatment.

On the other hand, the bodies of the deceased were sent to GMCH for postmortem.

Meanwhile, an agitated mob set fire to six houses that were allegedly involved in killing Nur Mohammad, Ali Akbar and Nurul Haque.

In the latest development, the Sontoli police detained five people in connection to the incident, of which, three were sent to GMCH while others were kept in police custody.

The incident has created a stir across the Sontoli .
