Guwahati: A rape, and murder accused, who was taken to the Dhakuakhana Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate’s Court for a case hearing, fled from police custody after pushing the policemen on Tuesday.

The policemen tried to nab him but in vain.

According to reports, the defendant identified as Raju Baruah alias Garja ran into the toilet inside the courthouse and then jumped out the window to escape.

Two more accused namely Jatin Tamuli and Sunti Das also fled from the courtroom along with hardcore criminal Garja.

Interestingly, this is the second time, when accused Garja managed to flee from police custody.

Notably, criminal Garja was earlier shot in the leg during a clash with police in September last year. He was immediately transferred to Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital.

Then, after discovering he had COVID-19, Defendant Gerja fled the COVID-19 ward in January this year.

He was again nabbed after the police launched a manhunt.

Defendant Garja had been implicated in cases of rape, murder and extortion.
