Assam: Man held for murdering, burying maid in Sonitpur district

Guwahati: Three people have been arrested in Assam’s Lakhimpur district for being in possession of suspected drugs, official said on Sunday.

Arrested accused identified as Ramakanta Gam (40) and his wife Meena Bori (35), residents of No. 2 Parbatipur in Banderdewa. 

During an operation by a joint team of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh Police, drugs were also found from the eight-year-old son of one of those arrested, official claimed.

A joint police squad from Bihpuria (Assam) and Banderdewa (Arunachal Pradesh) carried out the operation based on specific information on Saturday.

The team first apprehended two persons, including a woman and recovered around 5 gm of drugs from them.

Police also went to arrest another suspected, Jiten Biswas (34) from the same area in connection with the incident. 

According to sources, Biswas had previously been arrested on drug trafficking charges, but had been freed on bail, official added.

Another woman was apprehended in the district’s Harmati area based on the duo’s information.

We also recovered drug-filled pouches in the school uniform of the woman’s son, who was apprehended in Harmati, said official.

The minor will undergo counselling and further investigation is underway.
