Guwahati: Amidst 75th Independence Day celebrations, a rampaging wild elephant has trampled three persons to death in Goalpara, along the Assam-Meghalaya border.

According to reports, the three people were killed when wild elephants attacked Rangasai Kurung in Goalpara district in the midnight hours of Monday.

The deceased were identified as Bhim Bahadur Roy, Sharati Lama and Suchit Vishwakarma.

Meanwhile, the educated citizens from the area urged the state government to identify the elephant buffer zones surrounding the villages and provide necessary protection to curb man-elephant conflict at the earliest.
