TIME8 Impact: Slammed for child rights violation, Assam police orders probe

Netizens from various parts of the state and nation slammed the Assam police department for their alleged harsh behavior upon the women and children

Guwahati: Facing massive criticism from various sections of people in the state over a video showing some security personnel allegedly punishing women and children for allegedly violating curfew norms at Fancy Bazar area in Guwahati, Assam police on Friday ordered a probe into the matter.

The video was broadcasted by TIME8 on its social media pages, following which netizens from various parts of the state and nation slammed the Assam police department for their alleged harsh behavior upon the women and children and urged for a probe on to the matter.

Speaking to TIME8, senior lawyer, Nekibur Zaman, said, “I saw the video on TIME8, such kind of shameful behavior from the police department in the midst of Id-Ul-Fitr celebrations is condemnable. As the women and children were seen violating the covid protocols, the department could have taken lawful action against the adults, rather, they physically tortured both the women and children in the middle of the road. This is a clear violation of the Children’s Right to Protection Act. Legal action must be taken at once.”

Meanwhile, Guwahati police took their official Twitter handle saying, “With regard to a video showing some security personnel allegedly punishing women and children for allegedly violating curfew norms at Fancy Bazar area, an enquiry has been ordered.”
