TMC denied permission to hold rally in Tripura: Sushmita slams police
Agartala: The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leader Sushmita Dev slammed Biplab Kumar Deb-led administration for refusing permission to hold the ‘Padyatra’ in Agartala on September 15 next.
AITC general secretary and West Bengal MP Abhishek Banerjee was slated to arrive in Agartala to participate in a ‘Padayatra’ on September 15 next to protest against BJP-IPFT government’s misrule in Tripura.
Police in Agartala has denied permission to the event citing that a different political party has organized an event scheduled on the same date, time and same venue.
“Tripura police should reply which political party has sought permission for holding an event on the same day and time. The police need to specify the time when the letter requesting for permission was given to the police,” said Dev in a press conference here in Agartala on Monday afternoon.
“It is the duty of Tripura police to maintain law and order situation but they have failed to arrest a single person who recently attacked the media offices holding BJP party flags”, alleged Dev.
She said “Trinamool Congress has submitted a letter before the Sadar sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Ramesh Yadav on September 11 requesting for permission to hold a rally and sabha in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan here in Agartala”.
Squarely lambasting the role of BJP in Tripura, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said that the saffron party is afraid of their defeat in the ensuing assembly elections and hence, they are trying every possible way to stop TMC from holding the padyatra and show the strength.
Ghosh alleged “The BJP state leadership has also asked their district leaders and supporters along with wings to hold blockade at Dharmanagar so that the local trains cannot proceed towards Agartala”.
