Guwahati: Trinamool Congress national general-secretary Abhishek Banerjee is expected to visit Assam on May 11.

As the ruling party of West Bengal prepares to expand its footprint in the northeastern states, Banerjee will visit Assam to inaugurate a party office in Guwahati and meet with leaders of northeast state units.

The party has pledged to win power in Tripura in the 2023 Assembly elections, and feels that gaining a strong presence in Assam, as well as in Meghalaya, will help them achieve their goal. For the time being, the TMC intends to begin its campaign in Assam with the panchayat elections.

According to official, a party office would be established in Guwahati and many leaders from various parties will join Trinamool.

Trinamool Congress is aiming to improve the party’s organisation. Banerjee will provide guidance on the subject. TMC will stress the BJP’s failure and how the people of Assam’s aspirations have been smashed, official added.

Ripun Bora, who resigned from the Congress was recently appointed Assam unit president by the TMC.
