Most wanted Hizbul chief has been trapped in his native Beighpora village in Awantipora in Jammu and Kashmiri’s Pulwama district.
The dreaded terrorist has been identified as Riyaz Naikoo, a top Hizbul Mujahideen commander.
He carries a reward of Rs 12 lakh on his head.

Sharing the information, the Jammu and Kashmir Police took to Twitter and said, “Contact established in the third operation at Beighpora in Awantipur. Top terrorist commander is trapped. Exchange of fire is on and more details will follow.”
It added, “Operation at Beigpora Awantipur is going on. Any Speculative reporting unconfirmed stuff having law and order bearings is highly irresponsible on the part of some channels. They are advised to hold their guns please.”

If Naikoo is arrested or killed in the ensuing encounter, it will serve as a big blow to the Hizbul Mujahideen.
Based on intel about presence of militants in Beighpora area, a joint team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Beighpora in Awantipora of Kashmir late May 5th,2020 night.
Internet has been blocked across south Kashmir as a precautionary measure.

Two separate operations are underway in Pulwama district since May 5th, 2020. In the other encounter, an unidentified terrorist has been killed in Sharshali Khrew area.
