In a bid to make China understand the repercussions of supporting Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Article 370, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), a traders’ body, on August 18th, 2019, called to boycott of Chinese products nationwide. The traders’ body also sought high customs duties of up to 500 per cent on these goods. Traders’ bodies from the Northeast region also supported the call to boycott the Chinese products.

CAIT said that China has placed itself on the list of probable enemies for India’s national security by supporting Pakistan at the UNSC on Article 370. The body also informed that the issue will be discussed in a national conference of traders’ from all states on August 29th, 2019.

It may be mentioned that the resolution to abrogate Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir was passed by the Lok Sabha on August 6th, 2019 with 370 votes in favour and 70 votes against. The resolution removing the special status of the state under Article 370 was approved by the Rajya Sabha on August 5th, 2019.
