Guwahati, February 20: In a startling revelation, a Muslim family from Barak Valley decided to convert to Hinduism after their daughter was given triple talaq by her husband on knowing that her mother was a Hindu before marriage.
Reportedly, fourteen members of a Muslim family headed by Hussain Ali were escorted to Kolkata by the members of Hindu Samhati of Silchar to organize the first ‘Ghar Wapsi’ programme in the city.
According to reports, Hussain Ali said that his son in law has instantly given triple talaq to his newly married daughter when he came to know that her mother Mayna Bibi was a Hindu before marriage.
Ali reportedly, confided that his wife was a Hindu before marriage and has changed her religion and converted to Islam to get married to him. This fact was not known to his son-in-law, who after knowing the history of his family divorced his wife Minara Begum.
Reportedly, Ali’s neighbours and relatives also stopped conversing with his family after his daughter got divorced from her husband. It has been also reported that after being isolated from the Muslim community, Ali and his family voluntarily contacted Silchar’s Hindu Samhati unit and expressed their interest to convert to Hinduism.
The family reportedly came to Kolkata for conversion as they fear that their community will react violently to their conversion.
The incident initiated a debate between the intellectuals and the members of the Hindu Samhati.
The President of Hindu Samhati Debtanu Bhattacharya feels that there is no wrong in it if someone voluntarily comes forward and converts to Hinduism. He has reportedly said that they have converted over 300 people to Hinduism under the ‘Ghar Wapsi’ programme across the country.
