Guwahati: A 22-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly raping his minor cousin at Jubarajnagar in North Tripura district, official on Sunday.
The youth was arrested on Saturday from Patharkandi in Assam’s Karimganj district.
On Sunday, the youth was produced before a court and remanded to police custody for three days.
The incident occurred on July 28, when the accused allegedly sexually assaulted the 9-year-old girl and fled.
According to sources, somehow the minor girl reached home, following which her family members grew suspicious, seeing her condition.
Meanwhile, enquiring her, the family members came to know about the alleged incident. The girl was then taken a local hospital for a medical examination.
Following the incident, an FIR was lodged by the family member at the Dharmanagar police station.
A case under sections 376AB (raping a girl under twelve years) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered.
