Tripura: CPIM to boycott counting; SEC surrendered before BJP, claimed ex-MP Jitendra Chaudhury
Agartala: Tripura opposition party, CPIM had decided to boycott the counting of votes of the urban local bodies election scheduled to be held on Sunday alleging booth capturing, rigging and large-scale violence on November 25 last.
Speaking with TIME8, Tripura CPIM secretary Jitendra Chaudhury said that the party had decided to boycott counting in all those ULBs where they have demanded countermand.
“The state election commission (SEC) had completely surrendered before the ruling BJP”, he added.
The CPIM had demanded countermand polling and held fresh elections in five civic bodies and conducted polls in several wards of three others while the TMC had sought to countermand the entire poll process and hold fresh elections.
The CPIM had demanded fresh polls in Agartala Municipal Corporation, Belonia Municipal Council, Dharmanagar Municipal Council, Khowai Municipal Council, Melaghar Municipal Council and in ward number 5 of Sonamura Nagar Panchayat.
According to the announcement of the State Election Commission, the election process for the ULBs was held on November 25. The counting of votes will take place tomorrow. The counting will take place in Belonia as well as in other municipal and city elections in the state.
