Agartala: Condemning the mob-lynching incident of three youths in Tripura, Leader of Opposition and former chief minister Manik Sarkar on Monday demanded a high-level investigation into this incident.
Miscreants allegedly lynched the three victims for an alleged cattle theft case at Teliamura sub-division under Khowai district of Tripura on Sunday last.
Sarkar stated, “The incident of beating to death of three minority youths on Sunday is inhumane, against the law and justice system.”
Condemning the murders of three youths, the ex-CM claimed “Those who have been killed should be handed over to the police if the victims of the attack appear to be criminals and involved in illegal activities, the police should have been given the opportunity to take appropriate action.”
“But the way in which common people took the law into their own hands and killed three lives is an unforgivable crime and in no way can civilized society accept it,” stated Sarkar.
The leader of the Opposition drew the attention of the chief minister and the home minister of Tripura to arrange a high-level investigation into this incident, identify the culprits and make sure to take appropriate legal action against them.
He further added that the chief of police in Tripura must play an active role in maintaining law and order, protecting people’s lives and property, ensuring peaceful and uninterrupted living and stopping the growing trend of taking the law into one’s own hands.
