The outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), has recently warned that they would punish the ones who launched an attack on the convoy of Congress candidate of East Tripura constituency, Pragya Dev Burman, on April 18th 2019.
As per a report by The Hindu, NLFT leader Utpal Debbarma had called a television news channel ‘Kok Tripura’ to express their disappointment on the attack of a royal family member. The militant leader claimed that “the indigenous people regard the royal family as a symbol of their identity and that the family has been their source of inspiration”, as reported in The Hindu.
Pragya is the elder sister of Tripura Congress president Pradyot Kishore Manikya Deb Burman, royal scion of Tripura’s Manikya dynasty. Pradyot had earlier blamed the IPFT for the attack on vehicle of his sister.
The royal scion had landed in a controversy after a video where he was seen slapping a youth inside Khowai police station in Tripura went viral on social media platforms on April 18th 2019.
Post the incident, the Khowai police served a notice to Deb Burman in connection with a suo motto case registered against him for slapping a supporter of the ruling BJP’s junior partner IPFT inside a police station.
Meanwhile, the BJP has claimed the NLFT of campaigning in favour of Congress in Tripura in the East Tripura Lok Sabha constituency.
