    Tripura police seize cannabis worth Rs 18.50 lakh; 2 Assam youths arrested

    Police arrested the driver and co-driver of the truck with illegal cannabis

    Guwahati: Aiming to implement the clarion call made by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in building a drug-free state, the Panisagar police station staff seized a huge quantity of cannabis and arrested two persons from the Panisagar sub-division under the North Tripura district.

    Tripura police told Time8 on Sunday, acting on a tip-off a police force led by Panisagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sauvik Dey and Panisagar Police Station’s Officer-in-charge Saugat Chakma on Sunday morning stopped a truck bearing registration number MP09GF-5273 and during the thorough search, police seized a total of 230 kg of illegal cannabis which was kept in 26 packets. The estimated market value is around Rs 18.50 lakh.

    Police arrested the driver and co-driver of the truck with illegal cannabis.

    It is reported that the arrested driver is identified as Kiran Jeet Sinha (36), a resident of Jor Mohan Para in Hujai, Assam, and the co-driver Ebsao Sinha (28) hails from Udaipur in Hujai, Assam.

    During the police interrogation, the driver and his co-driver said that the illegal cannabis was being transported from Jirania under West Tripura to other states.  The detainees will be handed over to the District Sessions Court on Monday and a police remand will be sought to find out the details.

    The police investigation is underway in Panisagar against the suspects under the NDPS Act case. Even after a long time, the whole district is in a state of relief as such drug traffickers of Panisagar police station are trapped.
