    Tripura Ranks 3rd In NITI Aayog’s Composite Water Management Index

    The CWMI is a tool to assess and improve the performance of states and union territories in the efficient management of water resources

    Among the Northeastern and Himalayan states, Tripura has ranked the third-highest in the Composite Water Management Index (CWMI) 2.0 for 207-18. Himachal Pradesh topped the CWMI for Himalayan states followed by Uttarakhand. The CWMI was released by NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant on August 23rd, 2019.

    Announcing this news, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on August 27th, 2019 took to Twitter and wrote, “Delighted to know that Tripura is performing well in Water Resource Management, we are committed to full fill PM Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of New India. Shri Modi ji has started an effort to promote water conservation keeping in mind the challenges for future generations.”

    Deb also thanked the 37 lakh people of the state for their support in “moving forward in the path of progress and development.”

    Announcing the list of the index, Amitabh said that the objective of the index is to involve all key stakeholders to understand how states can better manage water resources. 

    The CWMI is a tool to assess and improve the performance of states and union territories in the efficient management of water resources. It has been done through a water data collection exercise in partnership with the ministry of Jal Shakti, Ministry of Rural Development and all states and union territories.
