Tripura: Three Killed, 2 Injured As Debate Over Supporting BJP, Congress Turn Violent

Amid the election fever in the state of Tripura, a quarrel over which party to support resulted in the death of three persons including a woman in Manikpur area of Dhalai district.

As per reports, the incident took place on Saturday amid the Biju festivities in the village when suddenly a quarrel over supporting BJP, Congress broke out for the East Tripura seat.

The deceased have been identified as Subal Kanti Chakma(65), Kinachand Chakma(45) and Hembati Tripura(39). Two injured are Murucherra Chakma and Gunodhar Chakma, they are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

As per the Police, the group was under the influence of alcohol and got into an election debate, which later turned ugly. One Chhabikanta Chakma, entered into the verbal dual and attacked the group with sharp weapons.

The police in the meantime have arrested Chhabikanta Chakma in connection with the incident.

Both Congress and BJP have blamed each other for the incident.

It may be mentioned that the East Tripura Lok Sabha seat which was about to go for polls in the second phase on April 18th 2019 has been postponed to April 23rd 2019 keeping in view of the law and order situation.
