Guwahati: Trouble mounted for Republic TV Editor Arnab Goswami after his WhatsApp chats with former BARCO CEO Partho Das Gupta was allegedly leaked by the Mumbai Police.
A few screenshots of the chat between the two were shared on Twitter. Apparently, Arnab is seeking help from PMO with relations to the TRP scam.
In one of the chat messages circulating online, former BARC CEO allegedly sent a confidential letter to Goswami saying that he had jammed the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) while Goswami allegedly replied that he might met the Prime Minister regarding the matter.
Some messages also suggest that Das Gupta told Goswami that Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reform proposal to measure TV viewership digitally using special software installed in the set-top-box would politically hurt both Republic channel and the BJP.
Advocate Prashant Bhushan shared the screenshot of the chats on his Twitter handle and said that these are a few snapshots of the damning leaked WhatsApp chats between BARC CEO and Arnab Goswami.
“They show many conspiracies and unprecedented access to power in this government; gross abuse of his media and his position as power broker. In any rule of lay country, he would be in jail for long,” he wrote on Twitter.
Goswami’s alleged WhatsApp chat with Das Gupta was leaked on social media on the same day when the Bombay High Court adjourned the hearing in the TRP Scam case till January 29.
The TRP scam came to light in October last year when BARC filed a complaint through Hansa Research Group, alleging that certain television channels, including Republic TV, were rigging their TRP number.
