United States (US) President Donald Trump said that he has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release the amount of Hydroxychloroquine ordered by the US

India has last month banned the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine and its formulations for exports. Trump said he requested Modi to supply hydroxychloroquine tablets that can be used to treat COVID-19 patients.

“After call today with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is giving serious consideration to releasing the hold it put on a US order for hydroxychloroquine,” US President Trump announced at the White House Coronavirus task force briefing on April 4th, 2020, NDTV reported.

He added, “India makes a lot of it. They need a lot too for their billion-plus people. The hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malaria drug will be released through the Strategic National Stockpile for treatment.”

President Trump also said that he too will take a tablet of hydroxychloroquine after consulting his doctors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Twitter, “Had an extensive telephone conversation with President @realDonaldTrump. We had a good discussion, and agreed to deploy the full strength of the India-US partnership to fight COVID-19.”

As on April 5th, 2020, 301,902 cases of coronavirus has been reported and 8,175 people have died in the US so far.

“My administration is working very aggressively to pioneer new medical countermeasures to treat and prevent infection. Federal agencies are working together to supplement the states by stockpiling medical supplies around the country. We will use every possible resource to end this war and open our country again. We are in this together and we will prevail together,” said US President Trump.
