Sivasagar, October 11: The Sivasagar police has today submitted the charge-sheet in the twin-train murder case in which two girls were allegedly murdered and raped last July at the Sivasagar district Sessions Court from today.
The court has also appointed a special public prosecutor to the case, the trial of which will begin from November 12.
“According to the charge-sheet, the accused have been booked with charges of gang rape under section 376 D of IPC along with other charges. The trials will begin from November 12,” the special public prosecutor said.
He further said that the statements of at least 54 witnesses have been recorded and they will be called to the court in due course of the trial.
“The completion of the case depends on how willingly the witnesses will appear. But, we are hoping that the trial will be over in the next six months,” the prosecutor said.
Radha Kumari, a student of Assam Agriculture University, was recovered dead in a toilet of a local train on July 10 and Lalima Devi was recovered from the toilet of a long-distance train the next day. Both were allegedly murdered and then raped by two assailants Bipin Pandey and Bikas Das — currently in police net.
The mother, on the other hand, demanded the accused be hanged and alleged a delay in allotment of a job to her family.
“There is no compromise on the punishment. the culprit needs to be hanged,” the mother said adding, “I have not received the job promised by the government yet.”
