Guwahati: Two massive fire accidents broke out in two different parts of Assam in the last 24 hours, wherein a 4-year-old child died.

On Thursday evening, over 150 shops were gutted in a massive fire that broke out at Jorhat Chowk Bazaar in the state.

According to sources, the fire started at a cloth shop located near the main gate of the market due to a suspected short circuit.

Following the incident, around 25 fire tenders reached the spot and started the operation. Efforts are underway to douse the fire, an official said. However, the situation was under control.

Meanwhile, there is no report of any human casualty in the incident.

However, this is the second incident of a major fire in Jorhat in two months. A massive fire in December destroyed several shops in the Marwari Patty area.

Yet in another incident, a 4-year-old child was charred to death in a tragic house fire that broke out at Khandarkur in Assam’s Barpeta district on Wednesday late night.

According to sources, the mother and grandmother of the child were also injured during the ordeal. Meanwhile, two cattle heads were also killed in the fire.

It is suspected that the fire was triggered by an earthen lamp. The father of the victim wasn’t home when the incident took place, sources stated.

Following the incident, fire tenders later reached the spot and doused the fire but the damage was already done.
