Four districts – Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Baksa and Biswanath, were badly affected by the floods on Friday.

GUWAHATI: On Friday, two more people died as the flood situation in Assam took a turn for the worse. Accordingly, the total number of deaths in the state has touched 112 altogether.

Though the waters had shown a receding trend in the last a few days, intense rainfall on Thursday had led to the Brahmaputra and its tributaries to flow above danger level in different parts of the state on Friday.

According to the Assam state disaster management authority (ADMA), at Naoboicha in eastern Assam’s Lakhimpur district, two persons succumbed to the sudden floods. Four districts – Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Baksa and Biswanath, were badly affected by the floods on Friday.

The river Brahmaputra was flowing above danger level at Neematighat in Jorhat, Jia Bharali near NT Road Crossing and Tezpur in Sonitpur district.

The flood has affected 29,603 population of 56 villages located under eight revenue circles.
