Guwahati Police on September 20th, 2019, arrested an Uber cab driver on charges of extortion from Satgaon area. The 24-year-old accused has been identified as Hamid Mullah of Howly in Assam’s Barpeta district.

As per information, on September 16th, 2019, Mullah had called Khoibor Ali, a businessman, of the area and allegedly demanded a sum of Rs 5 lakh. Later, he lodged a complaint with the Satgaon police. On the basis of the complaint, the police laid down a trap in the area and nabbed him red-handed while receiving the amount.

“Mullah had called the victim identifying himself as a terrorist and demanded a sum of Rs 5 lakh. So, as per our plan, we nabbed nab him red-handed,” police said. Police have also seized the vehicle of the accused.

A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused at the Satgaon Police Station.
