UDP joined by new members, prepped for elections

Shillong, September 27: United Democratic Party was joined by a 15 new candidates and a former candidate on Tuesday. The 15 candidates belonged to various political parties.

G.G. Bung Snaitang, newly appointed president of Ranikor circle, said the development only indicated that the regional party was getting better each day, while speaking to reporters after the executive committee meeting at Dorbar Hall.

Snaitang welcomed Leenga A. Sangma who had contested the Assembly elections in 2008 and 15 other leaders from BJP and Congress to the party.

With 15 well-organised zonal units the president reportedly said that they are prepped up for the upcoming elections.

Earlier, at a meeting held at Nongjri in SouthWest Khasi Hill district, many leaders along with two former candidates, Cornelius Nongbri and Nasar Marwein had joined the party. Snaitang was elected as president during this meeting. Also, Alphon K Rjya, Primus Thongni, Tehseng Marak and John Paul Hashah as vice presidents, Nasar N Marwein as senior working president, Pius Marwein, Narayan Thongni, L.A. Sangma, Cornelius Nongbri, G. Lyngkhoi and Golstar Shira as working presidents and D.E. Turnia as secretary, were elected during this meeting.
