Guwahati: The newly appointed Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday met kidnapped ONGC employee Ritul Saikia’s wife and brother at the Circuit House in Majuli.
Titabor MLA Bhaskarjyoti Baruah was also present at the meeting.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister assured them that the Government of Assam had taken all possible steps to rescue kidnapped ONGC employee Ritul Saikia.
Two other kidnapped ONGC employees Mohini Mohan Gogoi and Alakesh Saikia were rescued by security forces in a joint operation by the troops of Assam Rifles and the Indian Army from a remote village at the Indian-Myanmar border in Nagaland’s Mon district.
The separatist organization ULFA(I) earlier claimed to have released all the three kidnapped ONGC employees at remote village Takak Chingkhu in Nagaland’s Mon district in the midnight hours and alleged that Ritul Saikia possibly might have been killed during a counter-attack by the Indian army or might have been hidden somewhere by the security forces.
On the other hand, Assam’s top cop refuting all the allegations made by the outlawed faction ULFA(I) claimed that ULFA(I) hasn’t released ONGC employee Ritul Saikia yet. “We have inputs that he is with them in Mon district of Nagaland,” said Special DGP Assam Police GP Singh earlier.
