ULFA(I), NSCN call for R-Day Boycott

GUWAHATI: ULFA (Independent) and NSCN-GPRN in a joint statement called for a daylong strike in the Western South East Asia (WeSEA) region that includes Assam to boycott the Republic Day celebrations on January 26.

In the statement, the militant outfits also mocked the electoral process and said that in the upcoming state polls, many candidates have been trying to play the Assamese nationalism card.

“The aforementioned Indian electoral process is now in full swing in Assam, few veterans and some aspiring representatives of the masses are increasingly vocalizing on Assamese identity, survival and full of promises to upheld Assam’s interest riding the bandwagon of Assamese nationalism,” the statement said.

It added, “We would call upon all political or apolitical peoples of the WeSEA to boycott the celebrations of this Indian political event. We are calling for a total shut down from 001 Hrs till 18:00 hours on 26 January 2021. However, all the essential and emergency services are free to deliver their services.”

Meanwhile, Assam Police have taken all security measures to thwart any subversive activities of militant outfits.
