    Unhygienic drinking water served to polling officials in Dima Hasao district

    Election department is serving only vegetarian food (except egg curry) to the polling officials fearing diarrhea, but is providing unhygienic and undrinkable water.

    Haflong: An unhygienic drinking water is being served to polling officials at Don Bosco HS School, Haflong in Dima Hasao district.

    The fooding branch of the election dept informed that the water is supplied by the PHE, while the polling officials alleged the water is of rain water as heavy down pour is seen in the district since Tuesday morning and the water being served is of greenish looks.

    Meanwhile the election department is serving only vegetarian food (except egg curry) to the polling officials fearing diarrhea, but is providing unhygienic and undrinkable water.

    While some have been drinking the water some says that food being served is not good but is considerable but couldn’t compromise with the quality of water being served, so they have to buy package drinking water from their own pocket for the sake of health.

    Beside, the poll officials who are being sent far flung of the district are also not allotted sufficient drinking water. On Tuesday polling officials of 101 polling stations have departed to their respective destination, however sources said that they are allotted only 18ltrs of packaged drinking water to 6 persons for three day i.e. 1 ltr each person a day.

    On Wednesday prior day to the polls, officials for 145 polling station have also departed to their destination and were allotted 18ltrs of packaged drinking water to six persons for two days but the officials says that the remuneration they are allotted is much less than they received in the last election.

    Dima Hasao will go for poll on the second phase of Assam polls to be held on April 1, 2021, and all polling officials for 246 polling stations have departs to their respective destination amid tight security. Four candidates are in the fray for 16 Haflong (ST) LAC seat namely Nandita Gorlosa for BJP, Nirmal Langthasa for INC, Khandan Daulagupu for BTP and Longki Enghi for Janata Dal (United).

    Meanwhile Dima Hasao district administration has taken measures for free and fair polls. Altogether 1800 CAPF personnel’s have been deploys across the district for security purpose. Polling will start at 7am and end at 3pm.

    As per data on January 18, last, the total electors as per the final publication of electoral roll in the district for 2021 is 1,46,183 while 73,463 are male voters and 72,720 are female. While percentage of increase of electors is 2.55%, elector population ration is 608.

    Out of the total numbers of voters in the district 4,386 electors are in age cohort 18-19 and 1,756 are above 80 years.
