    Unidentified miscreants attempt to attack sitting Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev during ‘Dol Utsav’

    The attack was foiled by the puja committee members and bodyguards of MLA Shiladitya

    Guwahati: A gang of miscreants attempted to attack sitting Hojai MLA and BJP leader Shiladitya Dev while returning back from a ‘Dol Utsav’ here at Bishnu Mandir in Hojai’s Bishnupalli area on Saturday night.

    The attack was foiled by the puja committee members and bodyguards. They rescued him from the scuffle and took him to a safe zone, informed sources.

    Speaking to the media, Shiladitya Dev said, “I condemned this attack, I am here for ‘Dol Utsav’ not for any political affairs. Such activities cannot be tolerated amidst the elections. I am still a sitting MLA therefore, I am here. I will continue to serve the people of my district.”

    Around 39 constituencies in poll bound Assam including Hojai to go for phase-II polls on April 1.

    It is to be noted that the election to the first phase of the Assam assembly ended on Saturday with an estimate of 79.93 % voter turnout across the 47 constituencies.
