Union minister Piyush Goyal read out the contents of the Budget 2019 in parliament on February 1st, 2019. This is the last Interim Budget of the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi before the Lok Sabha elections due by May 2019.

“The government has proposed to increase allocation for the Northeast region to Rs 58,166 crore this year. It will be a 21 per cent rise over the previous year,” Goyal said.

It may be mentioned that with the Lok Sabha election just months away, the Modi-led government kept the budget focussed on easing income tax rules, farm loan waiver, direct cash transfers to debt-ridden farmers amongst others.

The Railway Budget for 2019 will also be presented on February 1st, 2019.
