Agartala, April 14: Union Minister of Tribal Welfare Jual Oram on Friday inaugurated the 3 day long Biju Festival at Pecharthal under North Tripura District.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Revenue Minister NC Debbarma and Social Welfare Minister Santana Chakma also graced the inaugural programme.
Biju is the prime socio-cultural festival of Chakma Community, which is organised to celebrate the end of a year and to welcome New Year. Indigenous people celebrate by playing traditional games and holding cultural programmes, fairs, rallies, water festival and Biju dance.
Addressing the function, Union Minister Oram said Biju Festival is the reflection of Tripura’s social integrity, not only the Chakma community the entire state is observing the holy spirit of Biju.
Oram had also mentioned about Tripura to get 15 Model Schools very soon, adding that an amount of Rs 25 crores will be spent on each school project where altogether 640 students could obtain the facility of quality education.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister Biplab Deb emphasised on Tripura’s indigenous culture, tradition and tourism. He urged the people to co-operate to boost the tourism sector of the state.
