Guwahati: As the city to enter into the awaited Unlock 1.0 mode from Monday, all shops on one side of the road in the city were allowed to open on alternative days between Monday to Friday 7 AM to 5 PM.
However, pharmacies from both sides of the road can operate on all days.
Citing the need of resuming economic activities, Chief Secretary Assam, Kumar Sanjay Krishna on Saturday said, “If all the shops on one side will open on Monday, then the shops on the other side of the road will open on Tuesday. The Kamrup (metro) administration will finalise it.”
He mentioned that the union health ministry has projected a surge in COVID positive cases in Assam and Guwahati by mid-August.
“However, looking at the need to resuming economic activities we have prepared an SOP for the next two weeks till August 2. While wearing a mask is made mandatory in public places, we have also decided to allow the government and private offices to start functioning with 30 per cent of strength.”
Some of the other activities allowed between Mondays to Fridays in the two-week-long Unlock 1.0 period were as below:
- Industrial and construction activities with limited manpower and stay
- Milk and baby products to be sold every day
- Home delivery of restaurant food, vegetables, fish/ meat
- Animal food and vets
- Parlour and salon
- Auto rickshaw, manual rickshaw, cab services with proper sanitization in front of the customer.
- Plumbers, electricians, mechanics
However, use of private vehicles and two-wheeler has been totally banned till August 2. No city bus service will also be there.
“We don’t want anyone to roam on the road for no reason. The situation is very critical and we need to behave responsibly now. Anyone found without wearing a mask in a public place will be fined Rs 1000 immediately on the spot,” said the Chief Secretary.
Night curfew will continue between 6 PM and 6 AM. Saturdays and Sundays will be complete lock-down.
