The Meghalaya government is mulling to build helipads in New Shillong Township and district headquarters. This was informed by Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy.

Roy made this statement while addressing the budget session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on the first day, as stated in The Shillong Times.

Governor Roy also mentioned that under the direction of the Meghalaya High Court, the state transport department is working towards expansion of the Umroi Airport. He also said that 42/47 seater flight is expected to operate shortly to connect Shillong with other state capitals in the Northeast region.

Ready to take off

The Union Civil Aviation Ministry has agreed to kick-start a seaplane service between Brahmaputra river in Guwahati, Assam to Umiam river in Shillong, Meghalaya. Shillong MP Vincent Pala has taken up the proposal with Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu, who in return has approved the plan.
