Guwahati: At least five persons have been arrested on Saturday for allegedly placing chunks of raw meat inside a Kali temple in Assam’s Dhubri district.
The incident sparked a sensation at the Jinkata Part-II village in Golakganj police station area on Friday.
Speaking to the media in this regard, Dhubri Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rosyrani Sarma said, “Angry locals took to the streets, seeking immediate arrest of the culprits. The police team had to rush to the spot to bring the situation under control.”
Following the incident, Dhubri police launched a massive manhunt and five persons were subsequently arrested on Saturday.
Meanwhile, ASP Sarma informed that a strict vigil was being maintained in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
Furthermore, the meat pieces have been sent to the state forensic laboratory for examination.
