Uruka 2022: Guwahati gulped liquors worth Rs 2.75 Cr; No road accident reported

Guwahati: After a successful New Year’s night, the special drive initiated by the Assam Government to prevent drinking and driving continued amidst the ‘Uruka’ celebration on Thursday night.

The drive resulted in zero accident cases in Guwahati, however, the transport department has registered 48 cases of drunk driving. A total of Rs 11.50 lakh was collected as a fine from offenders for flouting traffic rules in Guwahati.

Another 596 cases were registered against two-wheeler riders for driving without helmets or not carrying driving licenses.

Meanwhile, the city recorded the highest alcohol consumption as Guwahatians collectively guzzled nearly Rs 2.75 crore Indian made foreign liquors (IMFL) in the name of ‘Uruka’ celebrations on Thursday night.
