In a devastating incident, a vacation turned fatal for tourists from West Bengal as five died and two persons sustained grievous injuries in a car accident in the 7th-mile area of Gangtok on April 28th, 2019. All of them hail from Hooghly district of West Bengal state.

The deceased have been identified as Kakali Bose (42) Shnehasish Bose (58) Soma Kar (32) Sandeep Kar (44) and Subhajit Bose (26). While the injured have been identified as Mahua Patra (21) and her nephew Surjyas Kar (5).

As per media reports, the tourists were returning from Baba Mandir to Gangtok in a tempo when the vehicle lost control and plunged 400 feet down in the 7th-mile area, around 10 km from Gangtok.
