The students at the Sabarmati Hostel, Mahi Mandvi Hostel, Periyar Hostel hostels of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) have allegedly been attacked by ‘masked mob’.

The JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) claimed that “masked” goons of the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) had entered the JNU’s Sabarmati and other hostels and thrashed the students with sticks and rods on January 5th, 2020.

JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh, General Secretary Satish Chandra Yadav and Sucharita Sen, faculty of CSRD have been injured in the attack, as per the videos and images which are now viral on social media. The varsity’s students’ union alleged that police are helping ABVP to attack students.

Police have not been called inside the campus but are deployed outside. It may be mentioned, the JNUSU is protesting inside the campus against the hostel fee hike for over one month. A minor clash also broke out on January 4th, 2020 between JNUSU and ABVP students over the registration process being stopped.

On the other hand, the ABVP blamed the left inclined students for the breakout of the violence in the varsity.
