All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and Congress-in-charge for Assam Harish Rawat on April 13th, 2019 lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said that the voters of Assam will not vote for BJP as they are pressing for the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Addressing a press conference here, he said, “According to ground reports, in the 1st phase of Lok Sabha election, the people in Assam voted against the BJP in the five constituencies and this trend will follow in the 2nd and 3rd phase elections too. They will punish BJP for bringing the anti-constitutional bill. We hope to win in all five seats where the 1st phase election was held.”

“Our president Rahul Gandhi has been voicing the agenda of our party that if voted to power we will throw the Bill into a dustbin. We have clearly stated this in our manifesto too and as the people are protesting against the Bill, I don’t see the BJP winning this time”, he added.

Rawat further voicing his confidence of sweeping 10 out 14 seats in the state of Assam said that as the people are “unhappy” with the Narendra Modi led government, they will vote for Congress for the much-needed change.
