Amidst the speculation over giving ticket to Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to contest from the Guwahati parliamentary constituency in the ensuing general election, the sitting MP from the constituency Bijoya Chakravarty on March 13th, 2019 said she is ready to contest from the constituency if the former contests from another seat.

“Himanta Biswa Sarma will easily win the seat as he has popularity in the constituency. But, if he contests from another constituency, I am interested to contest from Guwahati as there is no anti-incumbency wave against me,” Chakravarty said.

She further welcomed the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) for forging the alliance once again. “But, BJP is firm on its stand over the bill issue,” Chakravarty added. AGP had broken its alliance with the ruling BJP following the row over centre’s attempt to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

Meanwhile, the sitting MP expressed hope of impressive performance of the saffron party and claimed that the BJP would win at least 12 Lok Sabha seats in Assam.

Slamming the Congress for large scale corruption in the state as well as throughout the nation, Chakravarty said, “The Congress is the master of all corruption.”
